Giovanni Roberts
I am Giovanni Roberts, a scholar with a foundation in computer science and a growing passion for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. After earning my bachelor’s degree at Albany State University, I have embarked on a master’s program at the University of Central Florida to deepen my expertise in these fields. This summer, I was placed at the Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where my team and I worked to analyze, verify, and validate uncommon industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) network protocols using tools such as Malcolm. The overarching goal of our research was to support the advancement of zero trust security models while exploring how these methods could be expanded to enhance cyber defense strategies for increasingly complex and evolving technologies.
I found this project to be both intellectually stimulating and deeply rewarding. It was inspiring to contribute to work that not only strengthens national security but also safeguards critical systems that impact millions of lives. The Mentorship for Environmental Scholars program has changed my life, and I am profoundly grateful to Ms. Rita Foster, Mr. Clarence Brown, and Mr. Dean Wess for granting me this opportunity and connecting me with such a knowledgeable mentor and supportive team. Over the course of ten weeks, I gained invaluable technical expertise, strengthened my problem-solving and research skills, and developed greater confidence in my ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a professional setting.
This experience has been transformative, equipping me with both the practical skills and the professional confidence to excel in future research and career opportunities. I feel truly fortunate to have been part of this program, and I believe it has laid a strong foundation for my continued journey in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, where I aspire to make a meaningful and lasting impact.
